Yearbook Payment and Venue Updates

Gerard has spoken to the publisher, price is confirmed at 1060ru. However, expect around 100ru plus minus to that figure, depending on number of pages, color and quality of the paper.
Nadia will be collecting the full amount of 1060ru from you by this coming Sunday, 1st of March 2009.

It's now confirmed that the graduation hall, some decorations, inclusive of the lighting, projector, sound system, reception of the VIPs and invitation of Ambassadors from several countries will be taken care by MosLanka. Everything will be fully paid. However, a little bit of touch up like banners, balloons, ribbons, flowers and refreshment/food for parents will be on our account.

He'll be meeting up with the university reps, namely the Rector and Dean somewhere around next week to reconfirm the date before proceeding with the booking. However, he assured that if the Dean agrees to hold the graduation on the 30th June 09 (he did agree in our case), then he'll make sure that our graduation will be ON no matter what, on the above mentioned date. Tentative venue:
1) Dom Ucheni like last year or 2) РОССИЙСКАЯ АКАДЕМИЯ НАУК, in leninski prospekt.

Things to be done: requested by Dr. Saman
1) A full list of graduating students and their nationalities (so that he knows which ambassador to invite)
2) A tentative program for the day (will be taken care by Ponni)
3) A joint committee with other representatives from other countries
4) Accommodation for parents. Namelist of parents who are coming to Moscow that want to stay in our hostel. Price is 300-400ru. He can arrange for our parents to stay in another so called apartment 3 stars standard. Details minimal, but he promised that price is cheap. Not so sure about that yet.

And by the way, Dr. Saman will not be in Moscow starting around next weekend to mid April, so if you have any important question or suggestion, please do it now!

The Yearbook Poll

Based on a total of only 14votes, we have decided to get the black color(1060ru) variant. Gerard is working out some plan with our very own Malaysian based companies, for example http://www.pixart.com.my/.

The decision is not final yet, but if we can get a better deal (same quality, or even better) from pixart, then we'll be buying it from them. The final decision will be posted up in this blog. Stay tuned.

Air Ticket and Visa Suggestion by Janet

Update done by Janet Lee, group 61.

After enquiring from a few travel agents in Penang, this agent who happens to be my mother’s friend is offering a good bargain for the air ticket travelling with Thai Airways. However, it requires a minimum purchase of 20 air tickets to attain the price of RM 3060 exclusive of visa. The agent is charging for visa at the price of 30 USD + RM 30 for courier and service charge which comes up to about RM 140-150 (single entry visa). With that, it means that parents living outside KL save the hassle to travel to the Malaysian-Russian Embassy to get the visa done.

If the above mentioned price is reasonable (so far it is one of the best offer that we could get), a deposit of RM 500 should be done ASAP to block the seats. Below is the flight schedule for Thai Airways travelling from Penang. Flight schedule departing from KL will be up soon.

Thai Airways (Ex Penang)
(Wednesday & Friday)
TG426 PENANG/BANGKOK 0820/0900
TG974 BANGKOK/MOSCOW 1025/1710

(Sunday)

TG974 BANGKOK/MOSCOW 1025*/1710

(Monday & Wednesday)

TG425 BANGKOK/PENANG 1940*/2205

Update on Robes

DzulAlKamal from gr.64 found a new shop near metro konkovo. This sifu quoted the robe to be around 1200-1500ru. The design is exactly the same like last year's graduation. On the possibility to change the design, we'll have to further discuss it with the shop owner.

Measuring will be carried out as soon as Al gets the confirmation from everyone in our batch, that includes the other non Malaysian students too. If everything goes well, hopefully by end of this month we can finalized the minute details (price, design of the robe, day of delivery and day of measuring).

So price is 1200-1500ru, down payment will be 300ru. And measuring will be done in batches/groups.
