Tentative date for graduation

I was told that the graduation should be held after 29th of June 2009 as 29th is supposed to be the last day for spring semester. Suggested dates are 30th of June or 1st of July.

Further confirmation has to be done with Moslanka (because the Dean clearly stated that the university has no control over the date and venue). I tried to contact Dr. Saman, but was told that he is now out of the country, until 18th of January 2009.

Therefore airtickets should be booked 28th of June - 4th of July to be on the safe side.

Expected number of guests for reception in Malaysia

Based solely on the poll, the current headcount for our reception ceremony in Malaysia is 273.

7 votes x 5 persons = 35
2 x 6 = 12
1 x 7 = 7
4 x 8 = 32
1 x 9 = 9
9 x 10 = 90
Leftover 3 votes = estimate of 40
We received only 29 votes, short of the needed 37 votes. Assuming the mean value to be 6 persons, 8 x 6 = 48.

Total = 273. About 30 seats are reserved for the VIPs. Therefore we are still short of 97 heads to bring the price from RM75 to RM 50 per head.

Possible guests = Current RSMU students, our beloved alumni, the aspiring future young doctors (post SPM students who are currently interested in pursuing medicine in Russia) and their parents.

Or to make things simpler, we can just invite more relatives or friends to come.

Some Important Updates and Reminders

Finally, some needed updates (hall status, collection of hall fees, photocopies of passports, submission of biodata forms, support letters from Malaysian Embassy and the dekanat).

1) We've collected RM200 from most of the students, and we've already paid the deposit of RM5000 through Aznul's dad. The details of our booking are as follows:
Date : 17th August 2009
Venue : Dewan Merak Kayangan ,
Jalan Maktab Off Jalan Semarak,
54000 Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.
Time : 11.30-16.00
On top of that, we are expecting VIPs from MMC, JPA, MARA and the Health Ministry.
We might be inviting the Russian Ambassador to Malaysia, if the university decides not to send a representative for the scroll giving ceremony. It depends mostly on the discussion, whether the university wants us to pay for the lodging and air ticket for that particular representative.

2) If you have not paid the RM200 for hall fees, please click the below link for details.
http://rsmu2009.blogspot.com/2008/11/collection-of-hall-fees.html

3) Photocopies of your parent's passports. Please submit in Now!, as the invitation team needs to get it done ASAP so that everything will be in order. So far we have 51 passport copies in hand.
More info, click the following link.
http://rsmu2009.blogspot.com/2008/11/russian-visa-application-4-steps.html

4) We have received biodata forms from Nadia, Jazman, Ray Yank, Sze Voon, Ling Tze, Ain, Muneer, Yuva, Sumathi, Yoga, Yan Han, Janet, Bibiana, and Mei Sian. Only 14 from the needed 40. We need your details not only for the yearbook, but the details can be used for other official purposes too. Please get it done ASAP. You can do it here online.
http://rsmu2009.blogspot.com/2008/11/submit-yearbook-details-online.html
And for Che'din, I didn't receive your email.

5) The Malaysian Embassy in Russia will be supporting our graduation, both in Moscow and Malaysia. Mr. Azman, the man who is incharged of student's affair and JPA matters, told Muneer that sponsorship for our event is possible.

6) Yesterday, I went to the dekanat to get the support letter signed and chopped by the university. Bespalyuk gave us the green light to organize our own graduation in Malaysia, without the interference of the university. However this was done verbally, as I had the support letter in English, hence the unwillingness to sign the letter. We'll submit in the translated version of our letter, and there shouldn't be any problem from the university regarding this matter.

7) The date for the event is not fixed yet at the moment. Bespalyuk told me that the graduation should be somewhere between 26th of June - 1st of July. The reason for the change of date last year was MosLanka's failure to acquire Dom Ucheni on time. We'll be working closely with Moslanka this time, to prevent the same incident from taking place again.

8) If you have any question at all, please post it in the comments below. I'll try to answer every question, even questions directed to the dekanat.

Thanks for your time and cooperation.

Russian Visa Application (4 steps)

Russian Visa Application (4 steps)
This is a must read blogpost for everyone. Please take note.

Step 1 of 4. What is a Russian Visa?
A visa to the Russian Federation is a document, permitting stay in Russia for a specific period of time. A visa lists entry/exit dates, your vital information, passport details, and has two photos stapled to it. Please note, that your Russian visa is an exit permit just like it’s an entry permit: if you lose it or stay over your designated departure date, leaving the country could be more troublesome than entering it.

Requirements For Foreign Citizens To Enter Russia (Tourist Travel to Russia)
1. Passport must be valid 6 months beyond intended stay
2. Tickets and Documents for return or onward travel
3. Russian Visa is Required
4. Vaccination - None Required

Step 2 of 4. Choose your Visa Type.
Russian Tourist Visa
This visa type is issued to tourists who have booked accommodation in Russia for non-business reason. Tourist visas are issued for a maximum of 14-30 days (check with your local Russian Embassy or Consulate). A tourist visa is best when you know exactly where and how long you will be staying without diverting from your planned itinerary. For a tourist visa to Russia, you must have confirmed accommodations or transit information for every night of your stay in the country.
We will provide you with visa support invitation to satisfy this requirement and confirming your accommodations/itinerary. No hotel reservations or bookings are needed on your part.

Step 3 of 4. Ordering Official Russian Visa Support.
Tourist Visa Support
1. We need complete passport information and dates of visit to Russia
2. Invitation and voucher would be prepared same or next business day depending on your urgency and send to you by fax to any country in the world
3. To obtain your visa, present the invitation and voucher at a Russian Embassy or Consulate

Step 1 -3 ( in Moscow) Obtaining an invitation letter(Russian Tourist Visa Support). There are 2 ways of doing this.

Based on the facts that it is more convenient, time saving and reasonable price, we suggest to obtain the invitation letter through Intel Service. http://www.intelservice.ru/

Step 4 of 4.
To obtain Russian Tourist Visa Support Authorization (Official Visa Invitation and Voucher from Authorized Russian Travel Company)
CHANGES IN VISA REGULATIONS:
A foreign citizen can obtain a visa to Russia ONLY in the country of his/her citizenship. Exceptions include those who have a residence permit for a foreign country for the period more than 90 days. A visa may also be issued in a country other than an applicant's own in case of urgent necessity, such as participating in international, governmental, official, scientific, sport and cultural events. A final decision in these cases would be left up to the consulate
Russian Tourist Visa( Russian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur)
The following documents should be submited to the Russian Embassy or Consulate to obtain a Tourist Visa to enter Russia:
1. Your original passport with at least 2 blank visa-designated pages (passport must be valid for at least 6 months after intended departure date from Russia).
2. Two copies of Russian visa application form, completed and signed.
3. Two passport-size photos signed on the back.
4. If Tour Group or Cruise Passenger: Letter from tour company or cruise line confirming itinerary and including a copy of the confirmation from authorized Russian travel company which shows the reference number and confirmation number for the visa.
5. If Individual Travel: Confirmation of hotel arrangements from authorized Russian travel company, or directly from the Russian hotel, showing reference number and confirmation number for the visa.

Note: Effective April 15 1999 all tourist visa support should be presented on the new Russian Visa Support Confirmation Form.

Russian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur : http://kualalumpur.rusembassy.org/rusvisa.html#tourist

Payment for visa application
1. Double entry Visa :
a. express ( 1 working day) = RM 385
b. 3 working days = RM 295
c. 7 working days = RM 211
2. Single entry Visa : 7 days = RM 123

Information provided by Tan Ling Tze.
